The grand old painting of Toby, Linnet, and Alexander has been given
to an art museum for a summer exhibition--and the ghosts have taken it!
Even worse, Grandmother Oldknow may have to sell the painting to keep
the manor house in the family. If that happens, the children of Green
Knowe may be gone forever.
Tolly, however, discovers that the house holds many other magical secrets--including a family treasure that disappeared generations ago. If Tolly can solve a few mysteries, he might be able to find the treasure and save the house, the painting, and his ghost friends!
Lucy Maria Boston (1892-1990) purchased a ramshackle manor house near Cambridge, England, in 1935, which over a period of two years she lovingly restored. It is the house that inspired her, at the age of sixty-two, to take pen in hand and create the beloved Green Knowe chronicles. L.M. Boston said she wrote her books to please herself--but the pleasure of her stories extends to all who read them.

"Simon Vance is a practiced narrator. His intimate voice beckons the listener into this special world, which crisscrosses time, neglected parts of the house, and the green heights of backyard trees. His presentation is as mysterious, perceptive, spunky, disdainful, and loving as needed to bring life to Boston's intriguing cast."

"The classic tales of Green Knowe, written by L. M. Boston in the 1930s, have returned to audio thanks to Listen & Live Audio. The first two, The Children of Green Knowe and Treasure of Green Knowe, were released in October and are fabulous. Tolly, the lucky boy who gets to live at Green Knowe while on holiday, meets many children who previously lived there through his Granny's stories and experiences the way time seems to slip through the house differently than it does in the rest of the world. Simon Vance, the narrator, captures the voice of each child and adult presented through these glimpses of time as it exists at Green Knowe. Vance is even willing, and quite capable, of singing the snippets of songs that are presented throughout the stories. His smooth voice brought me into the world of Green Knowe--I was so disappointed when I had to leave."

"Magic and mystery combine... Boston is an effortless stylist and her magic seems as simple as breathing."
New York Herald Tribune Book Review
"As distinguished and truly captivating as the first book... A book as fine as this has no age limits."
